Education and Designations
Barry Burney graduated from David Lipscomb University in 1963 with a major in Accounting.

He began his career as a staff accountant with Ernst & Ernst (now Ernst & Young). His subsequent professional experience has included various accounting, internal control, and financial positions, including 16 years with Genesco, Inc. in Nashville Tennessee where he spent many years as Director of Internal Audit.

Mr. Burney has worked with start-up ventures in the areas of investigation, fraud, and security with firms such as PLE (Professional Law Enforcement) and PRI (Professional Resources International).

Mr. Burney's auditing and private investigation experience includes both domestic and international projects, focused primarily on fraud and other white collar crime situations. Additionally, he has participated in physical security surveys for major U.S. corporations.

Having had a high level U.S. government clearance, Mr. Burney worked with the Department of Energy to safeguard and ensure appropriate security measures for nuclear materials control. His experience in this field included reviews and consulting roles for internal accountability, personnel security, and information security.

Mr. Burney has also held several positions within the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), serving as Vice President, President, and on the Board of Directors of the Nashville Chapter. He served two years as a District Director and member of the Board of Directors of the IIA.

Mr. Burney is a member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants.
